Leona Lee-ohna vs. Leona Lay-ohna
How would you pronounce Leona? I say Lee-ohna, but I’m wondering if I say it wrong? My grandfathers name is Leon pn. Lee-on, so that’s why I say it Lee-ohna. Please give me your feedback! Thanks!!

I don’t know anyone with this name but I would pronounce it Lee-OH-na, as in rhyming with Fiona, long O sound.

Both are correct! In English, Leona is pronounced "lee-O-nah." In German, it is pronounced more like "LAY-o-nah." So you could use either pronunciation and not be wrong. Leonie (German) and Léonie (French) are pronounced "lay-o-nee."
All are beautiful names. I love using Leona to honor your grandfather!

Fabulous name. I also think both pronunciations are correct. But I, too, say Lee-oh-nuh.

I agree with the 2nd and 3rd posters. My Tante Leona pronounces it ’lay-oh-nah,’ but she’s Swiss German. If you’re naming your daughter after your grandfather and he pronounces it ’lee-on,’ then using ’lee-oh-nah’ would be better to honor him.

I would say Lee-on-uh. But I prefer the spelling Liana, because then you don’t have the same pronunciation issues you’re having with the name.
