Amelia vs. Mila vs. Amelia "Mila"
I have always loved the name Amelia since I was a little girl, but I hate how popular it has become. I have also fallen in love with the name Mila. I honestly love them both equally. I’ve been told that Mila can be a nn for Amelia, but I don’t know. Please help!

Mila is awfully popular right now too. I guess it could be a nickname for Amelia, although I think it’s a little bit of a stretch. But if you are trying to avoid a really popular name, I don’t think using Mila really helps at all.

Mila isn’t AS popular as Amelia, though they’re both in the top 100 (#17 and #78). Mila is going to continue to grow.
I do believe it could be a nickname for Amelia. Mia is often used and if Mia can be one, Mila can be one. After all, Mila as a given name was born out of being a nickname for various other names.
I think, if you love both names equally, you’ve found a lovely solution. It’s not perfect, since you dislike the popularity of Amelia and Mila is everywhere at the moment but both are nice.

Amelia is number 38, and Mila isn’t even in the top 100 where I live, I don’t know if that helps or not.

As the names are so very popular and your daughter will probably have several in her class, why not use the pretty French name Amelie instead, slightly different emphasis and pronunciation but even prettier imo.

I too love this name, but worry about the popularity of it as well. Have you considered naming her Emilia? Almost the same name, but gives a variation in the spelling. I think it’s rather pretty.

I really love both of these names, and I think Amelia nn Mila is a great solution. I don’t think Mila is that popular, and if you love it, you should go for it!
