Lawrence vs. Laurence

What’s the general consensus about the name Lawrence/Laurence? Thinking of using it as a middle name but I have never known anyone with that name (which is kinda good, I guess). Do people like this name? Does it remind them of anything or sound too dated? Thanks everyone!!

I like it. It sounds strong and classic and a little unusual. Lawrence seems more masculine to me but I’ve known 2 people with the Laurence spelling for family reasons and it’s fine. I don’t particularly like the nickname Larry though

oh I guess it’s a middle name so you won’t get Larry, nevermind

I think it’s really nice. A solid name.

I like the nicknames Ren or Rance. Though I realize that there is no need for a nickname since it’s a middle name.

I think of Sir Laurence Olivier, one of the world’s all time great actors. It’s a handsome name and kind of sophisticated. It makes a wonderful middle name since it hasn’t been over used as such. I like the Laurence spelling.

It’s a nice strong name and it would be especially good as a middle name. It flows well with lots of first names.

I actually really like Lawrence for a girl. Upon hearing it, especially as a middle name, where it would be the second name, I think of Jennifer Lawrence. I don’t think it’s bad as a boy’s middle name, but like I said, I much prefer it for a girl.

Lol, Lawrence on a girl. That’s as good as Leon on a girl (which I’ve seen on here). Whatever boy name you like, someone will think it’s better on a girl.

Lawrence is virtually unknown on girls, which makes it unusual among boy names. Probably there are enough female variations of the name that it has gone girl yet.

Here are the numbers through the years. If there are no numbers, it means that less than five children were given the name that year.

Yes, though I could see it being used for a girl (since the trend of using boys names for girls is certainly rising) we are expecting another boy. We are fairly certain that Connor will be his first name and thought that the name Lawrence would be the male version of my name Laura. My first son Dawson Matthew got my husband’s first name as his middle name so just thinking this might be a way to add meaning to our second son’s name.
