My husband and I are having twins in April and we are not finding out the genders but they look to be identical. We love the names Rowan and Finley, do you see these names a gender neutral or are they all boy and wouldn’t work for girls?

I know some people are using Finley on girls but to me it’s still all boy.I mean Finn is the obvious nickname for it and that just seems completely masculine.
Rowan-I’ve heard on both and although I still prefer it on a boy at least it seems much more acceptable on a girl/as a unisex name to me than Finley does.
Consider Rowan and Riley instead!

I see Rowan as gender neutral but Finley I see as all boy. What about Peyton, Cameron, Riley, Kendall, or Taylor?

Rowan definitely gender neutral, Finley seems more like a boys’ name to me, although over the summer I heard the name on a girl, she was probably 7 or 8...

Finlay is definitely masculine. I prefer Rowan on a boy. But I have to admit that since it’s also the name of a plant, and names from nature are more often feminine than masculine, I can see the argument for Rowan as a girl’s name. But with so many more options for parents of little girls, I wish they’d leave Rowan (and Findlay) for parents of little boys. Just my two cents.
What about Robin instead of Rowan? Traditionally it’s a nickname for Robert (e.g., Robin Hood, Christopher Robin) but usually bird names are used on girls so it feels more *legitimately* (for lack of a better term) unisex. Good luck! :0)

I’d have assumed they were both girls, honestly. I think they both sounds super girly, and I like them. I don’t know about for boys. Finley isn’t horrible on a boy because you can get the nickname Finn, but Rowan just seems super girly.

I see the names as manly not neutral.

I see both as gender neutral. Rowan is one of my favourite unisex names. Finley, though traditionally male, could work for a girl as a more unisex version of the Ainsley/Paisley/-ey trend in girls right now.

They can go either way, but I like them a little more for boys. They would be fine for girls though. A name that I think truely works well for a boy or girl is Jordan.
