I pronounce it both ways. I guess it depends on how the parents pronounce it.

Soy-yer. Like literary character, Tom Sawyer and the band Sawyer Brown.

I pronounce Tom Sawyer as Tom SAW-yer and the band as SAW-yer Brown. I think this might be a regional thing.

Soy-yer is the name of one of my friends, he gets annoyed when people call him Saw-yer, he thinks it sounds redneck or something haha!

Except you don’t "soy" a piece of wood. You "saw" it. And Sawyer is an occupational name. A sawyer works in a saw mill. So "soy" makes no real sense to me.

I will concede that point. If the parent specifically wanted it pronounced Soy-er, I’d pronounce it that way. That would be their call, not mine. Otherwise, Saw-yer for me, like it’s spelled.

I pronounce it like Sah-yer. That’s just the way it comes out when I say it. However most people that live around me say Saw-yer. I think it is definitely a regional thing. I live in the south and no one here would ever say Soy-er.

Haha poster 11, I’m a southern hill-billy... and I pronounce it soy-er. I may just be the weirdo though ;D

But having said that, I agree with poster 1, I just go with what the parents want. GL!
