Freda! (This is a family name for me, from Frederica. I used it for my cat, thus the screen name.)

Freda might be mispronounced as fred-a rather than free-da. there’s also Frieda.

I think Freda is pronounced Fred-uh, not Free-duh, so I wouldn’t go with that. I would instinctively spell it Frieda, but Frida works too. I don’t like Freida.

Freda is definitely pronounced, "FREE-duh." It’s British. "FRED-uh" would have to be spelled Fredda. Harrumph.
I like just about any spelling, really. Frida makes me think of Frida Kahlo -- such a cool reference. Frieda makes me think of anything Germanic. Freda makes me think of my aunt and great-aunt.
The only spelling I don’t care for is Freida. It looks so odd when you know German pronunciation. But I will take the name anyway it comes. :0)

Poster # 6: You’ve been misinformed, at least as to the UK pronunciation. My family is from England and Ireland where Freda is definitely pronounced, "FREE-duh." Just watch season four of Downton Abbey." Freda Dudley Ward (born Winifred), the Prince of Wales’ mistress, is "FREE-duh."
I suppose Nameberry could be referring to the U.S. / Canada. But I’ve never heard it pronounced, "FRED-uh" here in the U.S. either -- not that there are many of them running around, I admit.
(Sorry, poll parents. Too much time on my hands.)

I like Freda best. It's my name, my grandmother's name & my unborn daughter's name. I agree the pronunciation is FREE-duh, although I have on occasion had people mispronounce it. I personally am looking for a middle name to go with it. I like Catherine but my husband isn't crazy about it.
