girls name somehow vs. involving the name Benton

Im pregnant with my first baby, a little girl. My husband was killed in Iraq when I was just two months pregnant. Now im 8 months along and still cannot come up with a name. He was so excited to have his "daddy’s little girl." I REALLY want a name that somehow includes his name to honor her daddy who has left me with the best gift he ever could, a piece of him. His name was Benton. PLEASE help! Thanks so much Shannon

Bentley would be kind of cute for a girl. Just Bennie would be cute too.

I’m sorry for the loss of a hero.

(First name) Bernadette
(First name) Benton
Bena (Middle)
(First name) Benita

You could do a first name beginning with BEN and a middle name ending in TON or the opposite. Such as, Bena Carrington or Ashton Benita

I’m am sooooooooooooooo terribly sorry. I think that Bentley would be great as a middle name.

any names other than bentley you can come up with? Im SO stuck

thank you for your sympathy and thoughts

Benson is cute

Bentley sounds better on a boy but it’s still a car. I would say Bennett but that’s more of a boy’s name, too. Perhaps as a middle name?

I actually like Benson.

I want something cute and unique....a lot to ask for ik
posted by poll creator :: 16 years ago | report
Bentley may be a car and may be a bit more masculine, but it’s probably the best fit, and I think it’s really cute and she will appreciate that you named her something like this after her dead, if it doesn’t end up agig too well, Bennie is a nice nn
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
IK its sooooo hard! Ive been trying for months and so has my friends and relatives.

Benton is such a manly name its tooo hard to make it girly lol
posted by poll creator :: 16 years ago | report
I really do like Benson, and it’s not too popular so people won’t automatically assume it’s a boy name...Benson is cute and unique- you don’t want to go too unique, but this is good
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
Well heres some (as close as i could get)

Bena
Bently
Benita
Beton

Good Luck ;)

How about Bensa? It’s close to Benson and Benton but will automatically be assumed as a girls name. I have to say that I feel to opposite of the Ben- names. A lot of the Ben- surnames are popular now because people want a variant to the popular Benjamin. They’re also really adorable. Most surnames sound very masculine. What was his middle name? You could possibly turn that somehow into her first name and use Benton as her middle.

I’d just use Benton as a mn. I also love the idea of using Abigail as a fn because of the meaning.

I think something like Abigail Benton would be quite cute, actually.

Another idea...if you rearrange the letters in Benton, you get Bonnet.

What about Abigail Bonnet or Abigail Bonette?

I think Benson is more tom-boyish sounding but in a cute way...surname sounding names are becoming pretty popular even on girls, I think Benson is the best option so far, close to Benton, unique, and cute, and not super masculine

no way to Bensa...harsh and made up sounding

So sorry for your loss.
I know a little girl named Bentley and she is precious.

Benton Padric was his full name.....we are both very irish as you can tell

Im still really hooked on using benton as a first name somehow its something i really want for her to have.

What about Bentonelle or Bentonette? So sorry for your loss.
posted by Sherry :: 16 years ago | report
ooo Benae is somthing ive never heard before....i kinda like it

what about if i were to use his name just Benton for her? or is that too much
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
Benton would be cute...if that’s what yo want to use, do it!! This is kind of an extreme circumstance where you should just follow your heart...since it was her dad’s I doubt she’ll ever hate her name, she’ll probably thank you and be happy she has that to feel more connected to her dad and it is unique
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
How about Benna?

Benna Patrice would be really cute, and it would play off both names, Benton AND Padric.
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
if you use Benae...I like Benet better as the spelling since it’s more traditional to that name, but it would be pronounced wrong, so maybe that wouldn’t be a good idea
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
I like Benton Patrice
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
You could even spell it BentonElle or BentonEtte? Or even add an a and make it BentonEtta or BentonElla? Maybe BentonAna or BentonAnna?
posted by Sherry :: 16 years ago | report
It is something ive been throwing around for a while but im not sure its what i want yet.

My friend suggested Bentyn but my mother in law as well as myself really dont want to respell it if thats what i decided to do. For some reason its too painful to respell it.

I like the meaning on Abigail a lot. What about Benton Abigail?
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
I like the meaning of abigail as well.
Benton Abigail might be the one.
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
Yeah, I understand the respelling thing...but that’s why I also think it would be a shame to completely change it to a made up name like BentonElla, etc
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
Benton Abigail seems pretty perfect to me! GL!
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
What about Bentyn - the "y" is a bit more feminine if that is what you are worried about.
However, I think Benton as a first name is lovely!

Hope this helps!

Abigail Benton reminds me of Abigail Breslin (sp?)

I actually like Bensa. I don’t find it harsh, at all.

I think Bentlyn Patrice or Bentlyn Patricia would be perfect.

I was looking at the above comments and really like Bentlyn! That is super cute and the most feminine form of Benton I think without loosing the name in it. I am sorry for your loss and think your daughter would be honored to have the name Bentlyn Liberty or Bentlyn Honor, Bentlyn America. I know people said Bentley was boyish but I also think it is cute for a girl.

I am so sorry for your loss. ((((HUGS))))
I really like Bentlyn ... it’s super cute!
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
I think Bentlyn is super cute, and I hope you use it!
posted by guest :: 16 years ago | report
Hmmm... lots of choices
I like the Bentley suggestion and if you are worried about it being boyish-spell it Bentlie or Bentlee or Bentleigh or Bently and give her a very feminine mn
I also like using Benton as her middle name so she can honor her father and have a girlie name to go by at the same time
Bentlyn is cute also
I love the Abigail suggestion

I think Benton is cute. If people are unsure about it, once they get to know her they will get used to it. No one had heard of my daughter’s name, but now it’s just her name and it fits.
