hey guys im naming my kid alexander but HATE alex and please dont say "don’t name him alexander if u don’t like alex" cuz its staying. But i like andy wat do u think??

People will always think his name is Andrew if he goes by Andy. You can always just call him Alexander with no nn. I know a kid who goes by that. Or how about Xander as a nn?

My cousin is Alexander and noone would ever think of calling him Alex. I think ALexander with no nn is great. You can call him whatever you want, but other than both starting with A, Alexander and Andy don’t have a lot in common.

It’s plausible. I mean, girls named Alexandra go by Andy, Sandra and Sacha. However, Zander/Xander is always an option (My name is Alexandra and I don’t like the name Alex, either. My favorite boy name - sadly - is Alexander). Sanders/Sander also? Alexis was an old name for Alexander but now that’s kind of out of the question.

Although most people will assume his name is Andrew, I think Andy works as a nn for Alexander. I also like Zander.

What middle name are you thinking of? Another option would be to use his initials as a nn (ie. AJ).
Although Andy would suprise people as a nn for Alexander, I don’t see it as being an impossible jump. I think there are other options that you may want to consider if you haven’t already though. . .

Xander (pronounced Zander) is a common nickname (for alexander) as well as common first name

well that’s what i’m gonna say sorry, if you name your kid Alexander, when he goes to school he’s most likely gonna get called Alex whether you like it or not, unless you give him the nn Xander or Zander, if you give him the nn Andy people will think his name is Andrew but i can see where you’re getting it from, if that’s what you want to do then do it, but people will always think your kid is called Andrew and not Alexander, but i don’t think it’s too much of a problem so if that’s what you want to do then go for it
