Thoughts vs. Please

I’ll be naming my daughter Mary after a family member, but I would prefer to call her by a nickname for Mary, that way there’s no confusion. I absolutely love the name Marcy! And I think it works. But I really want to know what others think. Can I use Marcy as a nickname for Mary? Her first name will be Mary, so please don’t suggest otherwise.

Marcy seems a bit of a stretch to me. But nicknames don’t always have to make sense, I guess. I’ve heard of May as a nickname for Mary. Have you considered that?

I am not the biggest fan of Marcy as a nn for Mary. What is her middle name going to be? Could you just call her by her middle name?

Marcy as a nickname for Mary is a bit of a stretch. However, sometimes nicknames have nothing to do with the name on the birth certificate. If you really love Marcy, I say go for it.

Mary Janae (and then call her MJ)
Mary Katharine (MK)
Mary Evelyn (ME, like Emmie!)

I also don’t love the sound of Marcy, but Molly is a traditional nickname for Mary that wouldn’t be confusing and would give her her own identity!

Mary, nn Buttercup, makes sense to me. so Mary, nn Marcy is an easy "go for it" from me. If you are still a little hesitant, what about using a middle name that has an "s" sound in it: Mary Cecilia, nn Marcy? Good luck! :0)
