Jora vs. Too Weird?

Hi! I was perusing some baby name websites when I found the name Jora. It’s a Hebrew name that means autumn rain and I think it’s so beautiful. I’m worried it’s a little too unusual though. What do you think of the name Jora? It’s pronounced like Nora, but with a "Y" sound (there is no J in the hebrew language). I know pronunciation will not be intuitive (that’s my main concern), but I really love this name. P.S. Should we consider spelling it Yora? I think for the most part is has been anglicized as Jora and I like this spelling better.

If you prefer it to be pronounced Yora that is the way I would personally spell it. I would have pronounced it Jora if you had not explained.

I like it. At first I thought the J was pronounced like J normally is, but with the Y sound I like it better. Obviously traditionally it’s meant to be spelled Jora, but for the sake of the baby and everyone else, maybe respelling it to Yora would be better. Good luck!

Yeah it sounds weird to me but it’s not bad.

Great name! I prefer to spell names as they are meant to be spelled. People will learn. And most names get messed up a lot anyway. My own name is pronounced exactly as it is spelled and I still get all kinds of different spellings and pronunciations. It’s a losing battle....

Spell it Jora and just let people know how it’s pronounced. My last name is Jorge and it is mispronounced all the time. I am okay with correcting people.

It’s not too bad, if you like it, I say go for it. (But I would keep it Jora, Yora looks too odd to me)

Jora in Hebrew means sewage or dirty.
