Elwyn vs. Girl vs. Boy

I’ve always thought the name Elwyn was a girls name or maybe unisex (I never even considered it for a boy at all) but after researching it, everything says it is exclusively a boy name. Is it? What do you think.. is it a girl name or a boy name?

-Wyn is a Welsh masculine ending. The feminine version is -wen.

Elwyn is definitely masculine, it’s the Welsh form of alvin!

Elowen/Elowyn is a feminine name though.

In Welsh, yn is exclusively a masculine ending. Elwen would be the feminine spelling. But Americans have this weird propensity to make yn a girl thing. It’s kinda tacky to me.

Not Elowyn, Elowen.

100% girl! I’ve never heard a more girly name!

I had an Uncle Elwyn. Bronwyn (or Browen is Wales), however is a girl’s name.

Just because it "sounds" like a girl name doesn’t mean it is.

Thanks for your input. I think we’ll just find another name.

I think it sounds feminine. I prefer Elowen though.
