Asher vs. Ashton

I like Ashton for a boy and my husband likes Asher a little better but he’s willing to compromise. I think Ashton is stronger and to me Asher sounds more like a nick name for Ashley. What do you think? Don’t say Ashton is a girl name because it is more popular with boys and it only became popular because of Ashton Kutcher who is male. I would never name a girl a name that ends in ton.

I like both but since I plan on naming my son Asher, I say I like it better. To me, it is stronger and nice because it is less popular and has been around a long time. There are girls named Ashton which does lead people to think a name has lost some of its masculinity (unfortunately). How about just Ash? My husband wanted that as our sons name but I vetoed it since he’s getting Ash in Asher.

I think I’m going to go with Ashton. I used to know a girl named Asher so I know its not soley used for boy either. That really doesn’t bother me because there are so many names that have become unisex these days anyways...
