We’ve decided on Evie, for our daughter, but not sure how to pronounce it, I’ve heard both and like both. Also She needs a middle name!

I’d pronounce Evie as Ee-vee unless i knew Evie came from a name like Evangeline. I like Eh-vee so perhaps if Eh-vee is how you want it pronounced, a change of spelling could work. I know an Evvie and an Evvy.

Hmm.. That’s hard. My next door neighbor has a daughter named Evie (EH-vie), but it is short for Evelyn. This is how I regularly pronounce Evie, because I’m used to it. I would say the pronunciation depends on what it is a nickname for or if Evie will be a nickname at all. If it’s a nickname for Evelyn, Genevieve, or Evangeline, go with Evie pronounced EH-vie for the nickname. EH-vangeline. EH-velyn. Gen-EH-vieve. However, if it is short for a name with the EE sound, go with EE-vie. If Evie won’t be a nickname at all, I would say go with EE-vie. Even though my ears are used to EH-vie, somehow EE-vie sounds more complete.
Hope I helped. Good luck! :)

My cousin just named her daughter Evie!! It’s such a beautiful and sweet name!
When I read it, I first thought EE-vie and when I met her, that pronunciation was confirmed. I’ve always thought of Evy as being pronounced as EH-vie and as a nickname for Evelyn & Evangeline while EE-vie (Evie) as a nickname for Genevieve.
I agree with the second poster - EE-vie just sounds more complete! Good luck

I say Eh-vie I don’t think changing the spelling will do anything. It’s the same as Olivia said as O-livia and Ah-livia.

I say EE-vie. I like that pronounciation a little better. Both ways are nice, though.

Definitely eh-vie, and I find it weird when people say ee-vie, although both ways are nice. I like eh-vie better, though, and that is how I always pronounce it.
