Taj Nicholas vs. Good? vs. Too Out There?

We want a more unique name. We love Taj but are afraid it might be too out there? Our families have given us many suggestions but my husband says they are "too normal" which I kind of agree with him, they don’t know that we are thinking about using Taj. We are open to other ideas but we want the name to be really unique and something that pretty much no one has heard in the US. We plan on doing a lot of worldwide traveling once he is older as well. What do you think of Taj Nicholas Dubben, Dubben being ou surname. Thank you! ~Ellin and Josh Dubben

Tahj Mowry is an actor the younger brother of twins Tia and Tamera. Tahj is still on a TV show and was very popular in the 80’s to early 2000’s. If you want a unique name I wouldn’t use something so closely connected to an actor.

We know this information. But Taj is still a very uncommon name in the US. There haven’t been any popularity ranks recorded for the name Taj since 1998 in the US Population charts(according to BabyCenter). The fact that there is an actor with the name doesn’t make the name itself any more common, just more heard of. I doubt anyone is going to automatically think of Tahj Mowry when they look at our son. Thanks for the advice though. ~Ellin and Josh Dubben

Well, unique and almost completely unheard of names are totally my favorite. Here are some suggestions that I, personally, haven’t ever heard.
Mostyn (Like boston)
Wickham
Covin (long o sound)
Ruseau
Seegen
Brenner
Dannon
Rengie
Eustace
Enoch
Valerian
Lagan (Lay-gan)
Ioseph (form of Joseph)
Leocade/Leocaedie
Kincade
Kemp
Dagan (Day-gan)
Con
Cowan
Thackary
Tiernan.
Are they too unique for you? If so, I hope it gives you a better idea of the names you’re truly aiming for.
Good Luck!!

People just might not know how to pronounce it. Also I don`t think you should give your child a really unique name I get not wanting him to have a really popular name like Jacob, Tyler or Mike. But I think by trying to make his name really "Unique" is a bad idea to be honest it will make you and your husband look like idiots who can`t name their child like most of the celebrities now a days.

I think Taj is just fine. It is an actual name and it sounds better than couples naming their child Grey or Storm. It’s also better than parents naming their daughters Ryan or James or Michael! I you like Taj use it. Taj Nicholas is a very nice name.

I would think the person was indian upon seeing the name, not sure if this is because of the Taj Mahal or Dr Taj (doctor on a uk chat show years ago). Still, I like unusual names and don’t see a reason not to use it.
