Spelling vs. For vs. Marianna
My concern is that there may be pronunciation issues. We want it pronounced Mary-Ahna. I’ve considered the spelling Mariana, but I’m not as crazy about it. What do you think? Our surname is Italian and Marianna is Italian and pronounced MAR-ee-ahna. I feel like most people do fine with Gianna and Anna prounced with the -ahna suffix. What do you think?

I think Marianna is going to be pronounced with an "ahn-uh" at the end, no question. I would definitely spell it Mariana. Good luck!

But in Italian, -anna is pronounced Ahna. Don’t you think people would catch on? Or do you think it would just get old correcting everyone? I really like two n’s as it honors family. I’d rather use Marianne over Mariana, but my husband prefers the a ending.
