Boy names on girls vs. Just a trend vs. All names will become unisex

I didn’t realize how many girls are given masculine names these days until I started looking for a name for my baby. Has this been happening for a long time? I have a feeling that in a few years when all of these kids grow up and get married...couples names are going to be for example, Hayden and Logan or Kayden and Jayden or Blake and Dylan. We will think two boys are getting married. Is this just a trend or will all names become unisex in the future? What is your prediction? I am not bothered by this but I think its rather interesting. I had my daughter 13 years ago and I named her Samantha but she has always insisted on going by Sam. Had I named her just Sam she would probably hate to be called that. I’m just glad her name looks like a girl on paper so there is never any confusion. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I hope all names don’t become uni-sex. Yeah a lot of people will think they might be a gay couple that would’t be good. (Don’t believe in gay marriage.)

Boys names should stay for boys!
girls are girls for a reason they are feminine due to the double X chromosome! it should be bettr that girls get feminine names that suit there nature and personalities beautiful smart and maybe a little girly.

Sorry, some people just aren’t into prissy, princessy names for their little girls. How this threatens the masculinity of boys, I have no idea. That is such a far-fetched, ridiculous concern, IMO. And let’s not even go there with the same-sex homophobic comments. Seriously.

What about a double x chomosome makes someone "feminine"? What does that even mean? You sound like the type of parent who would be afraid to let her son play with dolls or her daughter to play with Hotwheels. We’re not born into gender stereotypes, they’re forced onto kids by society (case in point, people like you).

I don’t want any fighting on poll. This was just a discussion. I am just curious I haven’t named a child in over 13 years so I’m sort of lost here. I don’t like the comments the first poster made about gay marriage. My brothers name is Kelly and he was named this when it was popular for both boys and girls...he never had a problem with it. I just wonder if all names will become like Kelly or if this is just a trend.

This can be a touchy subject on this board, so if you post on a controversial topic you have to expect that it might get a little heated :).

At any rate, it does seem more socially acceptable for girls to use "boy names" so maybe they do have the advantage there, but that said I don’t think there is any danger whatsoever of boys running out of "masculine" names or all names becoming unisex.

Well I was thinking that the names we are naming our boys now will be the next Lindsey, Ashley, Alexis, etc. names that were originally for boys. Names I was thinking about using were Ryan, Dylan, or Blake. Those were my favorite 3 but I think I’ve seen them on girl polls more here than I have for boys. That is why I’m confused so would you just not worry about it? Name him what I like? I know there are a ton of Hayden, Jayden, Kaydens that are male and female. Maybe its not that big of a deal to kids anymore? I don’t mind it I was just worried my son might but I guess they learn from us and if we don’t react they won’t either?

I would name your kid what you want and not worry about it. Naming trends change with the times, but not all that quickly. If your son’s name isn’t anything too crazy or unusual, then it won’t ever be among his peer group as he grows up.

I think Boy names should be masculine and Girls names should be feminine.
