How would you pronounce Maya? vs. "My-uh" vs. "May-uh"
We want to name our daughter Maya (Pronounced "My-uh, but are worried she is going to be called "May-uh". Is this a legit concern or are we giving people too little credit? Please help. Also, any Mayas out there who can testify to common mispronounciations?

I pronounce Maya "My-ah". My daughter is named Maya and most people pronounce it correctly. We heard someone pronounce her name May-ah once, but other than that no one pronounced it wrong.

If you are concerned about it you could always use the spelling Maia! I only know one Maya and she doesn’t have any issues with people mispronouncing it, but there are people out there who will say it wrong there aren’t a ton of names you can pick that won’t leave you with at least a couple people mispronouncing it. Oops! I accidentally voted for may-uh, but I meant my-uh! I only pronounce it as my-uh and I think it’s a very sweet and pretty name!

I know at least 5 Mayas, and they all pronounce it my-uh. I’ve never heard anyone say may-uh. Maia is another spelling pronounced my-uh.
