Why would anyone think Ashlyn is trashy? I think Ashlyn is quite lovely! They must have had a bad day.

Not trashy at all. I prefer it spelled with two Ns though. Just a personal preference.

I don’t know that I would go so far as to say the name sounds trashy. But when I hear names like Brooklyn, Ashlyn, and Gracelyn, I feel like the -lyn ending creates a very "trendy" sound to the name. I love the names Brooke and Grace, but when I hear -lyn attached to them, I feel like it sort of cheapens the name. Ashlyn is in a bit of a different category, though, since there is no counterpart such as Ash for a girl. I used to teach 4th and 5th grade and had a student named Ashlyn. She was such a joy, very bright and almost always cheerful. To me, she made the name something special. Go with it, since you love it and your daughter will also make the name special.

It’s absolutely not trashy! My eldest daughter (6) is named Ashlyn Rae and I’ve received so many compliments on how lovely her name is :) her nn is Aly. She’s also the only one in her year with the name in quiet a large school which is a bonus!

Not at all trashy! And a very traditional Gaelic name (although the spelling is quite different....but sounds the same)

Ugh. I hate it when people say a name is "trashy" because it may be spelled slightly different than the "norm". Some people are just boring and uptight! I have a Master’s Degree and chose to name my daughter "Emersyn" instead of "Emerson" (so yes, I know how to spell). I feel that so many names wouldn’t exist if someone didn’t decide to "think outside of the box". It’s your daughter and if you love the name, then that’s what matters! You’ll drive yourself crazy if you try to find a name that everyone likes. I know how you feel though. I had some awful comments about my name choice. In the end, my husband convinced me to go with my gut and not worry about what others think. I grew up with a boring, common name. I would have loved something a little different and memorable.
