We were wondering which people preferred out of these two names. Please comment why! (The difference is that Maia is pronounced my-uh and Mia is pronounced me-uh). Middle name ideas would be lovely. Thank you. Charlotte.

I adore the ’eye-ah’ sound! Also Maia is so much more unusual than Mia.

I prefer Maia.

Mia sounds reminds me of the Spanish word for mine (mía). It’s not a bad connection, but Maia means "great" in Latin. What a wonderful meaning!

Middle names:
Maia Chloe
Maia Phoebe
Maia Lily
Maia Avery
Maia Giselle
Maia Eve
Maia Tess
Maia Eden
Maia Elle
Maia Simone
Maia Gabrielle
Maia Isabelle
Maia Kate

I have to disagree with a PP... I know more Maias than Mias. I think Mia sounds more pretty and gentle so it GMV. It’s a lovely name, short and sweet and not frilly but feminine.
Mia Seren would be lovely or Mia Isabel. X

I prefer Maia because it has a warmer and stronger sound to me, but Mia is pretty too.
I think Simone would be a nice middle for either.

hi voted for maia, because I love the way it’s pronounced. I have a wee girl we named Mia but said the same way as maia. but obviously that’s personal preference lol

I love Maya/Maia, but dislike Mia. Let me try to figure out why... :)
Maybe it’s because Mia sounds too much like "me." Or maybe it reminds me of Mama Mia.
Maya has a cool, breezy feel to it. It’s pleasant rolling off the tongue. It sounds strong, yet relaxed.

I know SOOO many Mia’s, and anyway, popularity aside, it’s an incredibly boring name (no offense). I don’t know a Maia, tho, and it’s so gorgeous!

It really depends what you’re looking for. To me Maia is a name that’s more energetic, strong and charismatic, but Mia is gentle, soft, graceful and sweet. They are both lovely names though that would be perfect for any girl. I guess that ultimately I would go with Mia but Maia is very nice.
I think that Isabelle would be a lovely middle for both. Good luck.

I have a little Mia! So obviously I absolutely love the name. I disagree with it being common, she is six and we have only met one other Mia.
My daughter’s middle name is Emily, not perfect flow but we picked in in honour of my sister who died at four. Honours aside, my choice would be Mia Isabel or Mia Grace. Good taste! X

I love Mia - soft and gentle yet so beautiful! I think that Maia just doesn’t sound right, perhaps I’ve thought about Mia too much; my little girl Sophie was soooo close to being a Mia, but my husband backed out last minute so she got Sophie instead. It would have been Mia Florence so obviously that’s my fave!
I also think that Mia Ruby, Mia Kate, Mia Isabel, Mia Rose, Mia Grace, Mia Emily, and Mia Louise are lovely too.
