Abraham vs. Yes vs. No

I love the name Abraham. I think of a strong, upstanding go getter that doesn’t give up like President Abraham Lincoln. But I’m afraid it might be considered similar to "hipster" names and no one will take him seriously...wdyt?

How about Abram instead?

I LOVE Abraham. I wouldn’t consider it "hipster" but I think it will gradually start becoming more popular as older names come back into style. However, I can’t imagine it becoming a Top 10 name, or even a Top 30 name. Plus, Abraham Lincoln is an awesome namesake!

My husband doesn’t like Abram. Not sure why but it’s not my favorite either.

Thank you, poster #2. I also have an ancestor Abraham that served during the Civil War. I’m also thinking that it will start to get popular too. = )

Maybe you could use Abel as an alternative?

I like it!

No, I want to use Abraham. I’m basically asking what would you think if someone told you they were going to name their son Abraham? Like, "Wow, that’s religious!" Or "Wow, that’s a name for scaring your kid." Or hopefully, "Wow, that’s a cool name. He’ll be someone great!"

Honestly, if someone told me they were going to name their son Abraham, I would raise my eyebrows and think, "Really? Couldn’t they pick something a little more... normal?" I’m really not trying to be mean. I’m just giving my honest opinion.

Abraham sounds so ancient. I just can’t picture a baby or a child with that name. I can’t picture a teenager named Abraham either.

That’s okay, Poster #10. Not everyone has to like it. = )

How is that not normal? It’s a classic. I mean, it dates all the way back to Bible times... I personally think it’s a great name.

I would sigh with joyous relief if I had an Abraham in my class rather than another boat load of faddy Lincolns and Hunters, a fabulous name, very regal, very classic, not at all boring.

It would strike me as very religious. But not in a bad way.

I wouldn’t think twice if someone said they were planning to name their baby Abraham. It’s not the most popular name, but stands the test of time. Plus, Abe is a pretty sweet nn!
