Opinions On vs. The Name vs. Caoilinn for A girl?
I love the name Caoilinn for my baby girl! Caoilinn is the Irish version of Kaylyn/Kailyn/Kaylin. But my mother hates it! My boyfriend left me so I figured she could help me but she shoots down every name I suggest. She says that Caoilinn is ugly and makes me look like an illiterate parent because of the spelling. We do live in the US. Is it really that bad? What do you think of the name Caoilinn for my baby girl? I am open to other names but nothing like Scarlett, Amelia, Charlotte, etc. I want something that is going to be more unique in the US. Thanks ~Gabby

I would spell it Kaylin since you live in the States. It would be easier spelling and pronunciation wise for your child. That being said, I don’t think "Kaylin" no matter how you spell it is really that unique any more. And there is a good chance she would be Kaylin your last initial) in school.

Other than the spelling, which is not typical in the US, Kaylyn/Kailyn/Kaylin/Caoilinn is not unusual or uncommon.
It’s pretty popular.
I understand you don’t like popular traditional like Scarlett, Amelia or Charlotte but I think there’s other unique pretty names out there.

I live in the U.S. and I know a little 3rd grade girl named Caoilinn! Her family is of Irish descent and all her siblings have Irish names. Everyone calls her Caley and most people don’t even know her full name. I love it with the original spelling, but keep in mind that it can also be pronounce KEY-lin which offers up the name Keeley/Keely as a similar option.

I think it looks really hard to pronounce and it could be seen as misspelt since it will be unfamiliar to most Americans. These are some other Irish names you and your mum might like :)

I know Kailyn/Kaylin isn’t all that uncommon but I still really liked it, I just would like a name that is more uncommon if I had to choose a different one. I don’t like the look of Kailyn/Kaylin/Kaylyn with my last name, which is Kelly, and I don’t want her to have repeating initials, that’s why I chose Caoilinn. I’m not a huge fan of the pronunciation of KEY-lin either. I would probably use Keelin if I wanted it pronounced KEY-lin anyways. Thanks for that idea though!
I like Carys but it isn’t really all that unique either. I’ve heard that it’s becoming more common. I also like Enya, Nola, Niamh, and Catriona. I’m probably just going to pick a name and not tell anyone, especially not my mom, what it is until she is born after all of the names she has turned down so far. Thanks! ~Gabby

Niamh is lovely! You can use that if you decide against Caoilinn. What if you spelled it Caylin, Caylinn, Cailinn, Cailin or Calinn?

I am not a fan of Caylin, Caylinn, Cailinn, Cailin or Calinn. The only C spelling of Kailyn I like is the Irish version. The American versions spelled with a C just aren’t appealing to me even though Cailinn is very similar, I just prefer the Irish version. Thanks though. ~Gabby

I think it is a very good idea not to tell anyone! In the end, go with what you like best. Somebody will always find something to criticize.
