Elizabeth & Isabella vs. HELP!

Hi. We have a lovely 4-year-old daughter called Elizabeth Alice. We don’t nickname her, she is always known as Elizabeth. 7 weeks ago we had a second daughter, and named her Isabella Charlotte. She is also known purely as Isabella. We don’t like any of the nicknames for either Elizabeth or Isabella. But last night, we discovered online that ’Isabella’ is the Spanish form of ’Elizabeth’. We are devastated! It feels like we have given our daughters the same name... No one has commented on it, yet. We chose Isabella because we loved it, and we also though it sounded nice with Elizabeth. Our question is, do they sound/look too similar?? We URGENTLY need feedback! Thank you!

What about changing it to Isabelle?

I don’t think its a problem... They really don’t sound similar, at all.
Very few people would know that Elizabeth and Isabella are - technically - the same name. I did, but I am a complete namenerd!
They do sound lovely together.
I would say keep it. If you really feel concerned about it, I agree with the PP: change it to Isabelle. There’s also Annabella, or Annabel.
I personally think its fine.
Good luck, and congratulations!
P.S. LOVE the combos Elizabeth Alice and Isabella Charlotte. Both absolutely beautiful!

They’re beautiful together. Please don’t fret :) If anything, it’s a sweet but subtle sister connection!

It would bug me personally. And changing it to Isabelle doesn’t fix the problem. Charlotte Isabella?

They sound lovely together.
I think better to have them similar than complete opposites... I know sisters Faith and Amelie and think it sounds a tad silly.
Elizabeth and Isabella sound soooo beautiful, it is a gorgeous sibset. I really don’t see them as being the same name – at all! If they don’t like the connection when they are older they can always each choose a nickname.
Congratulations, and all the best.

Hmm. Yes, too close, as they could end up as Lizzie and Izzy. Elizabeth and Charlotte sound absolutely wonderful, a simply perfect match - no need to change it on the birth certificate as Isabella can simply use her middle name. Elizabeth and Charlotte would be beautiful. Congratulations.

Yeah it would be fine. Beautiful names, they sound great together and tbh I can’t believe that they are technically the same name! Sounds great. No point changing it. Lovely sibset.

Don’t change the names. Both are beautiful. Maybe if you have a third daughter you’ll be able to find another form of Elizabeth to use!

I think its fine - hardly anyone will know, and even if they do the two names sound prety different

No they sound different with separate nicknames too. It is not at all clear that they are separate forms of the name. Lovely combos, btw. I think they sound pretty together. Good luck.

I’m in the minority, I am going to say it would be a problem. I really want to say it would be fine, and ultimately it probably would be fine, but there are a few issues.
I think of Elizabeth, will she grow up feeling that her little sister stepped on her toes a bit?
I think of Isabella. Will she grow up thinking her parents couldn’t be bothered to find another name for her?
Maybe, maybe not. But I wouldn’t say it’s safe.
It limits the nn options. You wouldn’t want Lizzie and Izzy, or Beth and Bella, etc...
Elizabeth and Charlotte would be a fab set!
I’m sorry and I wish you all the best.
