Kalea vs. Hawaiian Name vs. Right way to pronounce?

We love the Hawaiian name Kalea for our little. We first heard it as Kuh-lee-uh but but now other people have been saying that it is pronounced like Callie or Kaylee. What is the CORRECT Hawaiian pronunciation?

I’m no expert, but I would have thought it was something like, "kah-LAY-uh." But I can see how in English it might be more like, "kah-LEE-uh."

I don’t get Callie / Kaylee from Kalea at all. I don’t think those people get out much. Good luck! :0)

This is my daughters name. Because of the Hawaiian origin it it pronounced ka-lay-uh. We do hear mispronunciations of ka-lee-uh and Kayla a lot.

I seen the name Kalea. LOVED it. People was saying it all different ways like kay-lee before she was even born. So we added a "h" to it to try and help people out with saying it like Kuh-lee-uh. We spell ours Kahlea. Rather than the kalea. Both pronounced the same.

My name is Kalea. It is Hawaiian and pronounced Kah-LAY-uh, but I live in Maui and rarely is it pronounced correctly.

The lady's comment above me is correct. My name is also Kalea. It's pronounced Kuh-lay-uh. My middle name is Li, pronounced Lee. As a general rule the letter E in hawaiian has an long A sound and I's have a long E sound. And also never, ever pronounced correctly except when I'm in Hawaii. :)

Yes this is my daughter's name as well. It is of Hawaiian origin and pronounced Ka-lay-uh. I am half Hawaiian and my mother is Hawaiian born and raised. But yes it is always being mispronounced here in the states.
