I think the first spelling, with the realization that this kid will have to correct spelling and pronunciation his/her whole life. It’s not a bad name, but unfortunately nobody knows how to say or spell it.

See, the people who haven’t heard of this name won’t care how it’s spelled, so they won’t think anything about it either way. The people who have heard of the name will know all about the 3 Musketeers and such, and will know how it’s spelled, and will think you’re crazy if you spell it wrong. It’s like if you were going to name your child after Jacques Cousteau. You’d name him Cousteau, right? Not Koostow.

if your not naming in reference to the Musketeers then you don’t need to use the french spelling. its going to be a personal preference to how you want it spelled be it traditional or oringinal. personally i prefer Dartanian. good luck!

My son’s name is D’Artagnan .I chose the original French spelling, I have always loved this name and swore if I ever had children I would use this name. When I got pregnant I said if it was a boy we were naming him D’Artagnan hubby agreed so I am now the proud Mom of 7 yr old D’Artagnan Anthony =)

I also fell in love with the name D’Artaganan years before my son was born! He’s turning 20 in December and is very happy with his name even though some kids in primary school thought his name was Titanium on the first day :)One good thing about living in a country with 11 official languages is that people accept strange names!

My new grandson will be named d’Artagnan. I have two granddaughters named d’Nyce (pronounced Denise) and d’Nai. I like unusual names because it accents their individuality. It’s just harder finding decorations with their names on them!

My husband middle name is Dartaneon. According to my father in law the spelling should have been D'Artagnan but thanks to his wife (my mother in law) it was mispelled on his birth certificate. So, my husband named our daughter DARTANIA!! She is the love of our family's life!!!

Are there common Nick names for "D'Artagnan, Dartanion, "?
What will this name be shortened to? You know someone's going to do it.
