I don’t like it. There are already several spelling variations of the name Laila, Lila, Lilah, etc. that Lisla seems unnecessarily complicated. While Isla is pronounce eye-la, putting an L in front of it makes me think of a name along the lines of Lisbeth and that would lead me to pronounce it lis-la. I would either go with Lyla(or one of the more recognizable variants) or go with Isla, but I wouldn’t combine them.

It seems contrived to me. It’s unlikely that it will occur to people, upon seeing it for the first time, that Lyla is the pronunciation you’re going for. Personally, I prefer Lilah.

I guess it could work. But I don’t see the point. Is there a reason behind it?

Yes there is a reason. I love the spelling Laila but lot of people would pronounce it Layla. And I dont like the meaning of Lila or Lilah as it means temptress or seductress.

I’m not sure where you found those meanings, but Lila means night is Arabic, amusement in Sanskrit, dark-haired beauty in Persian, lilac in Spanish, and purple in German. None of those are bad meanings by my standards so I would go with Lila, Lilah, Laila, or Lyla.

I would pronounce Laila the way you want it because I pronounce ai as ’eye’ and ei as ’ay’. Though there are names like Hailey, Bailey, and Kailey that throw that out the window. Any way you spell it you will have to correct people. Lila/Lilah can also be pronounced lee-la or lil-ah, Laila will probably be pronounced lay-lah sometimes. Lyla is pretty straight forward. And Lisla would probably be the most difficult. Sometimes a name comes with issues like that, especially when it’s used all around the world like this name. If you love the spelling Laila, then go with that spelling and correct people the first time so that they will know all the times after that.

Laila doesn’t look or sound like Lyla. Unless you want to pronounce her name as Layla then I would spell it Lila, Lyla or Lilah. Otherwise you will make life a little more difficult for your daughter having always to correct people about how to pn her name.

Laila is also a Saami and Finnish girl’s name. It is either a form of the Finnish name Aila or from the Arabic name Leila. Laila is pronounced LIE-lah in Sweden and Finland.
From behindthename.com, English speakers are silly because they will pronounce Kai correctly (k-eye), but when it comes to other names containing ai they automatically say ’ay’. lie-lah is the correct pronunciation for Laila as well as lay-la. My name, Alicia, has several correct pronunciations. I simply tell people how I say it and they remember, it’s really not as big a deal as people make it out to be. The people who always seem so concerned probably have names that don’t have this problem. Laila is beautiful and the loveliest spelling imo and if it’s your favorite that’s all the more reason to use it! Good luck!
