Questions About vs. Elisha

First of all, WDYT of this name as a middle name for a boy? I can’t decide if I like it better as a first or middle name, but perhaps it’d be a better middle name since it’s very close to my cousin’s son’s name, Eli? What would you say? Also, what is the proper pronunciation? I’ve heard it pronounced Ell-ih-sha, uh-lee-sha, and ee-lie-sha. Which way is it typically pronounced in the US? Finally, what first name do you think it pairs with the best? I’ll put a list in the first comment. Thanks for your help.

I’ve only ever seen it as an alternative spelling to Alicia, a girl’s name.

To me personally, I automatically see Elisha as a girls name, you could always use Elijah :)

It’s supposed to be pronounced Ee-LIE-sha but most people in the US will probably pronounce it phonically and it will sound like the girl name Alicia.

It’s more popular on boys in the US than girls but it’s used for boy. In 2014 there were 319 boy Elisha’s and 138 girl Elisha’s.

Elijah might be a better choice since it’s less likely to be mispronounced and less likely to have the gender mistaken. Or use it as a middle name.

Paxton Elisha or Dominic Elisha would both be awesome.

Ahh, really? I didn’t know that. It’s Eli Manning’s full first name and there’s a male Elisha in the Bible. I’ve seen it on some boys before and someone suggested it to me as a boys name, but I don’t want to use it if it’s too feminine. -OP

Also, I do like the name Elijah if you think that’d be quite better boy’s name.

Elijah would be better imo. It’s really cute.

But Corbin or Paxton would be even nicer I think. That’s just my opinion, though. Go with the one you really feel.

Elisha is more on the feminine side.

I’ve grown up in churches (still attend one regularly) and I have only ever heard it pronounced eh-LYE-shuh- middle syllable is a long I sound. It sounds almost the same as Elijah, just substitute sh for j. I’ve never once seen or heard it as an alternate for the girl’s name Alicia/Alisha. Oh, and I’m in the U.S.

Ee-lee-sha
But it’s more common on a girl in the US and Canada so I’d go with Elijah or Elliott for a boy if you want an Eli first name.

I’ve only seen it as a girl name and only ever heard of it pronounced like Alicia/Alisha. My girlfriend is Elysia (ee-lee-sha). I’m Canadian. Elysia is American.

ee-lie-sha, it’s from the Bible. My name is Alicia and I’ve never seen or heard Elisha as an alternative for a girl. I’ve only ever heard it as a boy’s name.
