Carlisle BOY vs. Carlisle GIRL

My wife and I are naming our baby Carlisle regardless of their gender but we were curious on when you hear the name Carlisle do you picture a boy or a girl? Also do you prefer the spelling Carlisle or Carlyle? We are planning on giving our baby a fairly gender neutral middle name as well. Some of our ideas have been: Phoenix, Justice, Remy, River, Sage, Reese, Aubrey, Brook, Glenn, and Monroe. So please tell us your favorite combinations! Thanks much for helping, Jamie & Sami Williamson

Not a fan of completely gender neutral names. At least give the reader a clue as to gender. Plus if your child isn’t a fan of your naming style he/she will have something to fall back on.

Carlisle River, Reese, and Brook
Carlisle Aubrey, Sage, or Monroe.

I’ve only ever heard it on men. I don’t really see it as gender neutral. I would definitely spell it Carlisle though. Carlyle looks a little cheap. I only like the combination Carlisle Aubrey. I don’t think any of your middle name choices sound nice with the name Carlisle.

Carlisle isn’t gender neutral at all. It’s very masculine and will look ridiculous on a girl I’m sorry. I love it on a boy though. Carlisle should be left for the boys, please don’t turn another completely male name into a "unisex" name! If you have a girl she isn’t going to think it’s cool or anything because people will always automatically assume she is a boy and it will make her life so much harder. I could never picture a girl having the name Carlisle. Carlisle Sage would be nice for a boy. Or if you want a gender neutral name and are really set on Carlisle, go with maybe Reese Carlisle for either gender. At least Reese is actually unisex.

Carlisle is the best spelling. It makes me think of Twilight. I think it’s more masculine but I don’t really like it either way.

Boy all the way.

Ive only ever seen it used on boys, but I think it could work well on girls just like Carter/Carson!

Carlisle Monroe is adorable!

It’s more of a boy’s name and sound be spelled Carlisle. If you have a girl, maybe give her Carly as a nickname.

I’ve personally only see it as a boy name. BUT it’s a cool name nonetheless so if you have a girl, she’ll be able to rock it with the female Jessie’s, Jean’s, Riley’s and Dylan’s out there :)

Spell it Carlisle. And I like Monroe for a middle name best.

I see it more as a surname. Hence, it would be better as a middle name. A cool middle name, in fact, for either gender.

Carla would be nice for a girl. Carlisle for a boy. Allow your daughter to be feminine, why try to make her gender neutral. Carla Monroe or Carla brookfor a girl. Carlisle Phoenix or Carlisle Reese for a boy.

Carlisle Brook. I also think Glenn and Phoenix are more masculine so I would avoid them if the baby is a girl.

I love my name Carlisle. BTW I'm a girl. It sounds like a girl name to me and NOT a boy name!

We are planning on naming our girl Carlisle/Carlyle..looking for opinions on spelling. I think it's a beautiful, feminine name. I'm surprised to see so many people refer to it as masculine, as I've only ever known female Carlisle's...

Hi, my name is Carlisle...my middle name is Tammara. I love my name! I never go by anything 'short', and rarely have to use my last name...always call your child Carlisle

I think of a boy when I hear the name Carlyle.I would put Monroe or Reese as a middle name from your choices but consider adding Edward as a middle name

Our greatgranddaughter's name is Carlyle. She is named after her wonderful Grandmother Lyle who died with cancer before she was born. All of the family love her name.
