Thoughts vs. on vs. Creagh

Hey y’all! My name is Annie, and my husband, Scott, are having a baby girl soon. We live in the deep south, and always have and always will have close roots to all things southern and more traditional. We really like the name Creagh for a girl, but would love your thoughts as well (although we ask you to please stay on the more positive side of the comments)! Please suggest first or middle name combinations to go with Creagh. She will be joining big brothers Scott Holden, Jr. and William Heyward. Thank you so much! -Annie & Scott G.

We would love to hear your suggestions on pronunciation too! We were thinking Cree-uh/ah (like Leah, but with Cr), but are open to Cree. We will be sticking with the spelling Creagh if we decide to use this name! Thanks!

I don’t love it, though I appreciate uncommon names. I would pronounce this as Cree

Not a fan. It just looks like you randomly put some letters together. I like unconventional names but you should always ask yourself will this name cause my child more hassle then what it is worth, that is always correcting spelling and pronunciation, etc.

I don’t think it’s a very attractive sound, sorry. I’m from the Deep South too (Georgia) and it’s definitely a tradition for girls to be given family surnames as first names. I’ve know girls and women named Sumner, Ridley, and Murphy. I’m planning on passing on my mother’s maiden name Ambrose to a girl someday. That being said, I only like this tradition if it’s a family surname, otherwise it does treaty have meaning. If Creagh is a family name, I’d definitely use it because family ties and remembering your heritage are very important to pass on, but if it’s not, I wouldn’t use it.

*doesnt really, not does treaty!

Southern and "more traditional". Ugh.

Its Irish not ’southern’ and its pronounced Cray. If you want people to say it right - though why you’d use an unrelated and unattractive surname like this on a little girl - spell it cray.

I thought it was pronounced Craig and was a boys name.

I think it’s cute and like it as Cree, and my first thought was also that you wanted a traditional Irish name, I didn’t think of Craig and didn’t think it was a boy’s name because Irish names tend to have odd spellings so I just assumed it was a girl’s name.

Cray or Cree are not nice girl name ideas

Grew up with a girl Creagh ( Cree-uh)
Her mom's name was Creagh & her grandmother's name was Creagh. Unique name.
