Judas is my middle sons name. Judas Michael actually. People don’t give me any problem with the name and if they do I just remind them that no matter what you name your child there’s a criminal out there in the world with that same name or one day thier will be. Also a name and it’s history doesn’t make the person. My son Judas has given the name a whole different meaning. Just becaue Judas in the Bible made a bad choice doens’t mean that the name is bad or that Judas himself was bad. He made a mistake like we all do:) Hope that helps. Judas is a wonderful name and my son, 7, seems to like it! He doesn’t get teasing.

what the pp says is true, but would you name your kid hitler - I mean Judas just says betrayal. people will always think it even if they are nice about it... do you really want to name him something that your family really hates anyway?

It’s your kid. NOt your familys. Name him what you want. Dont let family talk you out of it. It’s your kid! If your family wants to name your child they need to have thier own kids.

If I met a child named Judas, I would seriously wonder whether his parents were cruel stoners or merely immigrants who didn’t have an effin’ clue who Judas was and why naming a kid that is worse than naming him Hitler.

How about choosing one of the -other- apostles. You know, the ones who didn’t betray Jesus. Philip is a rather underused and very handsome name.

As someone who is not religious, I think you can name your child whatever you like. Just because the name has negative connotations for a certain group of people doesn't mean it should be ruined for you. As long as you don't feel hatred or anger towards the name and you can feel love towards it, go right ahead and use it.
