I have known only one boy Gabriel who was occasionally called Gabby by his mother. I have known lots of girls called Gabby and a couple other Gabriels who did not go by Gabby. The Gabriels tend to not have nicknames or use Gabe instead.

I know a boy Gabby and a girl Gabi. So I’d say it’s unisex. Also I’d probably use a longer name. Like Gabriel, Gabriela/Gabriella, Gabrielle...ect.
Gabby is all girl. Gabe is the nn for Gabriel for a boy.

It was originally a boys name. The girls have stolen it like many other names, like Robin and Frances. These are older names the belonged to the males. By the way Gabby as a boy's name is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Gabby is "God's able-bodied one or hero of God"

Gabby is absolutely not a gender neutral name in modern times. It's a female name and no parent who cares about maintaining their male childs masculinity would allow him to be called by a female name.
