Tulsa & Gardner vs. Read Description Please
We are having twins, one girl and one boy. My husband and I are having a bit of a "creative disagreement" as my mom says. I have fallen in love with the names Tulsa and Gardner and really want to use them as our children’s first names, Tulsa for girl and Gardner for boy. My husband was all for them and really loved them as well.. Until he found out where I got the names from. I heard them in a preview for a new film comig soon called The Space Between Us in which the main characters are named Gardner and Tulsa. He still loves the nanes themselves but is afraid it is too weird for our kids to both have the same first names as characters that are both in the same movie. I think it’s fine. Do you think it’s weird? Can we still use them as first names? Is there anything I can say to reassure my husband that it won’t be too weird? Just to be clear, I am not asking for opinions on the names themselves as I know these likely won’t appeal to very many other people. Although we have gotten good feedback on the names so far and no one has brought up the film. I’m just asking about the connection to the film and if it would be super weird. Thanks. ~Casey

I’m sorry if my post is super long! Also, I have heard of both before the movie, never seen them used as first names but I had heard of Tulsa before, I mean it is a city in Oklahoma too, and I’ve actually met someone with the surname Gardner before. Thanks for your thoughts. ~Casey

A surname yes but not as a firstππ»
Leave the movie characters in movies. Tulsa is too weird of a name anyway since like you said it’s a town in OK.

Yeah it`s a little weird that they are both from the same movie and it`s weird because aren`t those characters love interest?

I meant to add in there that I had heard of both before but not only never hesrd them used as first names but I’ve never even thought of them as first names either. But when I heard them as first names in the movie preview I just fell in absolute love with the idea of them as our kids first names and my husband says he did too. ~Casey

I haven’t heard anything about that movie, but I dislike both names, sorry :/ However, I love names from film and literature, so perhaps you could find something else using that criteria?

Okay thanks guys. I honestly didn’t really expect everyone to be against using both. They are love interests in the movie so I guess it would be too weird. But if we don’t use one we will just throw out both. I adore both equally and don’t want to use just one of them. I’m guessing it wouldn’t make a difference if we used them despite knowing the connection but then told everyone when they asked that we had them chosen long before we heard about the movie? It would probably still be weird wouldn’t it? I mean thinking in about 10+ years when the kids are old enough to even care about movies of this genre this one won’t even be relevant anymore, does that make any difference? I 100% understand where you all are coming from but most of me really doesn’t want to let these go because we may not have more kids. Sorry if I sound like I’m being stubborn or difficult I just really love these lol. Also, my niece is named Ellia(ellie-uh) so Eliot is too close in sound to her name. Thanks though. ~Casey

Would it be okay if we used them as middle names but still called them by them? ~Casey

Yes. Parents do that quite often. Or at least some I know. My son actually goes by his middle 90 percent of the time.

It would be weird, especially if they’re love interests in a movie.

In my opinion
#1 rule:
Whether it’s a book, movie, real life famous spouses,whatever-just never name siblings after a romantic couple!
It’s not even about disliking the names or them being unique.I wouldn’t care if they were very common names (for example Jack and Rose from Titanic) it would still seem inappropriate.
A perfect example of this was on the internet the other day.Derek and Julianne Hough (brother and sister from Dancing With the Stars just in case you don’t know) went to a costume party and dressed like the couple from La La Land.People were all over it about how it was "weird" "creepy" "icky" etc.
Can you just imagine how they’d be about twins sharing names of a romantic couple? Terrible teasing potential!

My husband wants to wait and see how popular the film gets before we completely nix them. He is in the same boat as me, he loves them and wants to call the kids by them and we didn’t expect everyone to be totally against it. After bringing the movie and the love interest thing up to family members we got tons of "use what you love" and "I’m sure it’s been done before" comments so I guess we will se how popular the movie gets after it premieres. Thanks for all of your thoughts we will be taking all of this into consideration. And even my husband and parents said that they doubt this movie will even be very relevant or a common topic by the time our kids are old enough to be into that genre or understand that they share their nanes with the characters. We may just use them as middle names and call them by Tulsa and Gardner anyways. At least that way they will have their first names to go by if people still bring up the movie later in their lives right? Thanks guys! ~Casey

I would use them as middle names
Claire Tulsa
Jake Gardener
Something like that. But if you don’t think your kids will get teased or anything then who cares what others think, as long as you love them.

If you’re children get picked on with incest jokes, it will be all your fault. Don’t act like you weren’t warned. It’s not even about what the names are, it’s the principle of not making your twins a duplicate "couple’s item". It doesn’t matter if their peers never see the actual movie, the internet doesn’t forget, and all it will take is one moment of curiosity to search up their unique names to figure it out that they are named after a couple. Que the incest jokes. Smh

You can name your children whatever you want
If you like these names go for it.
I personally wouldn’t use two names from the same movie of a couple in love. Middle names yes. I wouldn’t call them by these names. Sorry. You can do whatever you like. I’m not sure why people are so rude

I would do this only if you saw the movie and liked it. Otherwise, see if you can replace one of them with something similar.
