Dolly/Dollie vs. Opinions

My great nan was called Dorothy yet went by Dolly so I want to name my daughter this bit I'm just not sure. Do you think Dorothy would be better or should I find a different name that would still honour her? If you think I should call her Dolly/Dollie what spelling is best and do you have any middle name suggestions. Thanks- Rita and Steve

To me Dolly seems like a nickname and doesn't really work as a full name. I would use a longer first name and just call her Dolly.

Dolly is definitely a nickname. Reminds me of what a little girl would refer to their doll as. I think Dorothy nn Dolly would be better, although I personally like Dot/Dottie as a nickname for Dorothy.

I'm not too keen on Dolly and even less so on Dorothy. A really nice way to honor your great nan and yet still give your daughter a name all her own is to switch Dorothy around to Theodora. The nicknames are almost endless, too: Teddie, Thea, Dora, Dory, Dolly. What do you think?

I think Dolly is cute, but i don't think it will age well. 3 year old Dolly is cute, 80 year old Dolly is cute, but in between it doesn't quite work.

giving her the full name Dorothy would be better then she's got a name that will age better and a few nickname options. how about

Dorothy Catherine
Dorothy May
Dorothy Grace
Dorothy Annabelle

or you could give her Dorothy/Dolly as a middle name
