Graham = tease-worthy vs. Graham = perfectly fine
My mom and I don't have the greatest relationship. It's been one thing after another pretty much my whole life. My husband, Mark, and I are having our first child, and she's at it again. We want to name our son Graham (not sure of middle name yet), and she's all over us about it not being a good name. She keeps saying he will get teased with "Are you a graham cracker?" and says it sounds like food. I am super frustrated, and I just want to poll some people and prove to her that Graham is not a bad name and that people will not tease him for it. So, just tell me: Is Graham a tease-worthy name? Yes or no? ~Melissa

The little boy named Graham that I know isn't teased and he is in 2nd grade now. His parents were told the same thing when they picked the name but it has never been a problem.

According to SSA, Graham ranked at #176 in 2015. So I think your kid will be fine if he is named Graham.
Don't listen to your mom. If she can't accept your decision, then it is none of her business.

Going to be honest here. Kids are "smart" at finding ways to tease. No matter what name you choose kids will find a way, if they want to tease your son. I say go with what you like and tell your mom that this is your son and you will name him what you want. I really like the name Graham.

I agree with the third poster. Every name has some teasing potential, some more obvious than others. So to say your Graham will never get some sort of comment is untrue. But I like Graham. I know a little Graham and he has had no issues.

Love the name Graham. And I also like Graham Crackers. But one does not make me think of the other. I can't promise no one will ever make that joke. But it's a great name. I'd use it.

Graham cracker isn't a very clever joke, lol. Your mom is out of touch. Graham is a respected name, like Grant, and I like Graham better! Your mom will likely have a lot to say about most of the names you would use. Graham is a handsome name! GL!

If Graham crackers is the worst anyone ever calls him, he's doing fine.
Personally I don't like the name because of the guy who invented Graham crackers, but most people aren't going to be as into the history of it. I doubt he'll have any problem.
Names can be an early warning system with some people. So today she's wants you to change his name. Tomorrow maybe she'll be on you about how you feed him or where he sleeps or if he's circumcised or what kind of car seat you need to use. Obviously sometimes people have good info about these subjects that you should consider, but sometimes they're just trying to control you. Since you have some history going on here, it might be best to draw a line in the sand now. Saying, "We've made a choice and this is what works for us." about 10,000 times is usually what it takes. And then not getting drawn into a conversation about the subject no matter how provocative the person is.
Good luck!
