I don't think Mara works as a nickname for Carmella. But it's a great name otherwise. Maybe just name her Mara and be done with it?

My best friend's name is Carmella, it's a really pretty name. I'm not too fond of Carmy, Cara, or Mara. Mara is cute but I don't really love it for Carmella. A lot of people call my friend Mella which I think is adorable. Ella could work but it's really popular. I'm going with Mella but I'm sure whatever you choose will be great!
