Perhaps consider whether you'd like the nickname Will or Al better...even if you don't plan on using a nickname, others might shorten it or he might decide when he's older that he wants a nickname. Manfred is not appealing to me, but I could go for Wilfred or Alfred. I like your way of acknowledging your dad while still giving your child his/her own name. We did something similar with our first child and it's worked out beautifully.
The only other name that comes to mind is the German name Gottfried (got-freed, so not quite Fred), but I think your current options are better.
For girls there's Fredonia (freh-DOH-nia), but again I think Winifred is just as good.

Love Alfred and Winifred too. Historic names-a-go-go. Catnip. There's something comical about Manfred. I can't put my finger on it. It must be the "man" part. In a purely nerdy way it's awesome. I just wouldn't want to go through life as one.
