Anastasiya ahn-nuh-stah-SEE-yuh vs. Anastasia ann-nuh-stay-zhuh vs. read description
Our last poll only got 3 votes...Anastasiya is the traditional Ukrainian way of spelling/pronouncing it. (Ahn-nuh-stah-SEE-yuh) However Anastasia is technically the same name, just Americanized and pronounced slightly different (ann-nuh-stay-zhuh). We are Ukrainian, so that is why Anastasiya appeals to us, but we live in the united states, so we think it will just be mistaken for Anastasia anyway. Is it worth correcting people for a traditional spelling/pronunciation, or should we just name her Anastasia?
The Top Baby Name is...
Anastasiya Ahn-nuh-stah-SEE-yuh
Anastasia Ann-nuh-stay-zhuh

I think if you spell it the American way and pronounce it the Ukrainian way people here will pronounce it they way you direct them to pronounce it.

Anastasia isn't Americanized. It is a Greek name. Any Russian or Ukrainian version would have derived from Anastasia. I think it would be easier to use Anastasia but it really depends on how much your heritage matters to you.

If you spell it Anastasiya, I think ppl will at least pronounce the ending right, because it's spelled out for them. The ending siya can't be pronounced zhuh.
