Alaia vs. Alaia

We came across the name Alaia (uh-lye-uh) a few weeks back and fell head over heels in love with it. The name is Basque in origin and means "joyful, happiness." The only problem we have now is that we can't find a middle name that we adore just as much. She's due July 3rd, so we have less than a month to find one. Could we get some help. We want something lovely but not something too "flouncy." Please no unisex names. Thanks so much!! ~Camilla

It sounds like "a liar" in my opinion. How about Alaya? It's pronounced uh-lay-uh.

Alaia is her first name for sure.

I completely disagree with the first poster. Alaia is beautiful and sounds almost exotic without being too "out there." I went to high school with a girl named Alaia and I always thought it was gorgeous!

What do you think?

Are you sure of the pronunciation? It looks like it should be pronounced ah-lay-ah. Other sites have it pronounced ah-lay-ah with no alternative pronunciations.

I have to agree with the first poster that it sounds like a liar said with a Brooklyn accent but if YOU love it, that's all that matters. :)

I'd rather not use a variant of my name. Thanks though.

As I look through the suggestions, I tend to gravitate toward the names that end in the "el/elle" sound ... but I still don't really love any of them yet. Sigh. Sorry.
