Marek vs. Merrick

We're finally narrowed down our boys name (girls name already set) for our surprise due in 2 weeks!! Wondering if the naming community here has strong feelings about how to spell it? Would love your input!

Not a strong opinion, but I do pronounce them slightly differently. Marek with a stronger long A sound, MARE-eck. Merrick with more of a short e sound.

I would say then differently. Marek: mar-ick. Merrick: mare-ick

I don't really have a preference on the spelling, but I really like the name either way! It's very handsome.

We have one in our family spelled Merek which is easy to tell people--like Derek but with an "m." I like the name!

To me, they are completely different names. Won't attempt to show how to pronounce them, as it really depends on one's accent. For example, I would disagree with poster #2's pronunciations. I'm from downstate NY, by the way. Both names are handsome. I voted for Marek.

OP here - thanks for all your input! I'll look into the pronoun it ion, but I think I'm in the same boat as poster #5 (northern NJ here, hello neighbor). I think My big hesitation is the association with Merrick, NY (on Long Island). But all your positive feedback makes me think we might have found the name!
