Theadora Theodora vs. Althea vs. Thea

Hello there. We are having a dilemma. We really like the name Thea. A lot. However we also like these fuller versions. We like Althea, as it sounds mystical, and we also like that its unique. Theadora and Theodora sound very regal to us, so we like them too. We also like just plain old Thea. We wouldn't be naming her Althea/Theodora/Theadora just to be able to use Thea as a nickname, we really do like all of the names regardless of nickname usage. Which name should we choose? ~Elisa and Hank

I really like Theodora and Thea but Thea does sound a bit nicknamish. Althea is also nice, just not my taste. GL!

Althea Johnson, nn Thea, gmv. Love it.

Love all of your options, except Theadora due to spelling. Althea means "healing" which is such a great meaning. Althea Gibson is a great role model.

Other possible sources for nn Thea (just to make this more difficult):

Timothea -- any Timothy's to honor?
Dorothea / Dorothy
Anthea -- ("AN-thee-uh") flower
Helianthe -- sunflower
Xanthe -- yellow haired (blonde)
Calanthe -- beautiful flower
Iolanthe -- ("yo-LAN-thee") violet flower
Amalthea -- ("ah-mahl-THEE-uh") goat who nursed Zeus, = to soften / soothe

Good luck! :0)

Not Theadora. Believe it or not Theadora is actually an incorrect spelling for Theodora. Theodora is beautiful and my favorite out of all the names you have listed. Thea is a really cute name and never occurred to me as a nickname. You could just name her Thea if you wanted, I see no problem with it considering it is a stand alone name or you can use Theodora or whatever you please. The decision is up to you.

Theadora is a wonderful name. (The idea that it is an 'incorrect' spelling or mispelling is itself incorrect.) It has Greek roots both in full (Θεαδόρα) and in its parts: Θεα or Θεία and δόρα. It is a powerful woman's name -- denoting a gift from a female Titanides (Greek: Τιτανίδες), a very powerful Greek god. She was daughter of Gaia [Earth] and Uranus [Sky].
Using the spelling Theo(dora) instead of Thea(dora) is ok, although it implies a "feminine diminutive" of a male name (as if the man's name comes first), rather than a female name unto itself. And it implies a male divinity.
Theadora spelled with two "a"'s is a recognized name, both historically (back to ancient Greek days) and currently.
