Lila 'Lie-lah' vs. Lila 'Lee-lah'

I was completely set on naming my baby girl 'Lila' pronounced 'Lee-lah', thinking that was the correct pronunciation until someone pointed out that it was incorrect and is actually pronounced 'Lie-lah' as in Lilac. I've discussed the name with a friend who said she's convinced it is pronounced 'Lee-lah' so I'm not sure and my husband agrees but maybe only because he heard the name from me first like that. How would you pronounce it? If it is 'Lie-lah', is there any alternative spellings/names that are pronounced 'Lee-lah'? Sorry for any English or grammar mistakes (not my first language). Thank you! -Anouk

If you want to say it Lee-lah then spell it Lela or Leela. I see Lila and think, it's just Lilac without the C on the end or it's just like the LILA in Delilah.

"LIE-luh," sorry. :0/

I do love Lila, just sorry it won't work for you. I'm not sure how I'd spell "LEE-luh." You'd think it would be a traditional staple in some culture. If anyone suggests Leila beware. That one I would pronounce as "LAY-luh," as in Leilani. Some do say Leila as "LEE-luh." But it's not automatic.

So, Leela? Not as visually appealing as "LEE-luh" is aurally, but I think it's your best bet. Good luck! :0)
