Personally, I'm more drawn to the C-spelling of Caleb; however, if you really like Kaleb, use it! It gives the nickname, Kal, a kind of cool feel... somewhat reminiscent of the superhero or sci-fi genres.

Just be aware that you will probably be correcting the way people spell his name as most people will just assume "Caleb". This is not a big deal. My first name is a familiar name with a slightly different spelling than most Americans are used to. I correct the spelling with necessary (school, bills, anywhere my name will be printed, etc.) and just shrug it off the rest of the time. I still have long-time associates who, after many years and corrections, still get it wrong and it is not like it is highly unusual.

I believe in leaving well enough alone. Caleb is a great name, Caleb-with-a-K has no historical relevance to the name besides being the "Modern English Trendy" version of it. It's not biblical like Caleb.

If you want a K name then there's Karsten. It's authentically K, it's a Danish/ Dutch variation of the name Christian. It's also spelled Carsten.
