Kathryn is a more updated way of spelling it. I like Katie, Kate for a nn.

Kathryn is modern and fun. Katherine is a beautiful classic. Catherine is very old fashioned. I like Kathryn best with the nns Kat, Kate, or Katie.

Why would you nn your daughter Kate if you are spelling it with a C? Shouldn’t it be Cate? I like Katherine,Kathryn spelled with a K. Kate is a great nn.

I definitely do not like the trendy Y used. But whether you use K or C for the name should depend upon which looks better with the surname or other family member names.

Just because a Y is used does not make as name "trendy". Names like Cynthia, Raymond, Myron, and Bayard are all very traditional names that contain a Y.
Kathryn is actually a pretty normal spelling for the name. I think it’s the best choice if you are going to use the nickname Ryn (which is absolutely adorable by the way!).

I think Ryn would be a cute nn for Kathryn. There are so many Kates around that it is a nice change.
