Cyril vs. pronunciation?

How is Cyril pronounced? I thought it was Sigh-ril, with the first syllable like Cyrus. But someone else is telling me it's Sear-uhl, with the first syllable like searing a steak. I've never actually met anyone named Cyril.

The name is pronounced SEER-uhl, but the nickname, Cy, is pronounced with a long i sound. My son Gabriel's best friend is named this, but we call him Cy.

Seer-uhl. Ever seen the old cartoon show The Raccoons? There is a character named Cyril Sneer.
