first name? Ilya vs. first name? Ilya

We want to honor our Russian heritage with our daughter's name, so we've chosen Ilya (ee-leah) for her middle. We also want a first name that is easy to say in both languages because while we ourselves don't speak Russian, some of our relatives do, and we'd like them to be able to pronounce it but for it our daughter not to have any problems in school either. Do any names come to mind. I've been looking at online sites, too, so maybe something will catch my eye.

You do realize that Ilya is a male name in Russian right....

Ilya is used as a unisex name in Russia.

Sasha is unisex in Russia (well, nowadays at least but it's still mostly male in Europe), Ilya most definitely isn't. A girl named Ilya would be Iliana or Ilyinichna. I'm Russian as well.

I don't like it but if you do, go for it. Correct me if I'm wrong but Ilya is a masculine name in Russia. Might wanna rethink that

If you really want to do the Russian standard of naming a girl. She gets a feminine first name, the middle name is named after the father in the female version, and the last name has an -a at the end to signify that she is a girl.

I didn't say that we were using the Russian standard of naming our daughter. I just said we wanted to honor our heritage. Ilya is Russian and, while not popular as a girl name, it *is* unisex, and it is a name that is in our family history.

So far, I like Evelina, Emilia, and Nadia. Thanks.

I'm Russian and believe me, Ilya isn't unisex, it's a male name. Do you like Elina, Ilona (ilona not iiona) or Ilyana?

I'm not going to argue about it. Ilya stays. As for first names, I like Evelina, Emilia, and Nadia. Thanks.

My American friend who married a Russian man used these names for their daughters. I think they all work well in the US and wouldn't give her any trouble
Katarina nn Katya
Anastasia nn Anya
Daria nn Dasha
Tatiana would be another option that is easy in both languages.

I like Daria. Thanks!

Ilya is masculine it's Russian for Elijah - whether you use a a masculine name for a girl or not, just don't lie to yourself about it. It's a guy's name, and you're proposing a boy name on girl - how very faddy. Irena would be feminine

Folks, back off from the poster
If the mother to be wishes to name her baby a specific first or middle name, why continue brow beating her? What is the point that you are trying to prove? So if in fact it is a male name, so what?
How many of you guests on this forum on other polls would be praising boys names on girls BNOG or GNOB ? I have seen it.
Pollster- I adore Russian names, all of them, male and female
If another pollster on here wants to name her daughter Dylan or her son Skylar then so be it
You pick what you love!
