au-RAY-lee-ah vs. au-REE-lee-ah
Which pronunciation do you like best for the name Aurelia? Originally, we fell in love with the name based on the RAY pronunciation; however, as we told more friends and family that we were really considering Aurelia, we came to find that most people pronounce it with the REE pronunciation, rhyming quite closely with Amelia (which I have loved for years and years and would have considered for this baby had we not named our son Sirius! The style-match is a little amiss there (;). Now I'm really loving au-REE-lee-ah and the more? down to earth? quality it has over au-RAY-lee-ah, as if it's somehow less princess-y, or even a bit shorter? easier to say? We're very conflicted. Her middle name will be Joy, if that changes your opinion. And if we were to call her by a nickname, my husband loves Rae and Lay-la (not sure we have a spelling in mind!) for au-RAY-lee-ah, and au-REE-lee-ah could be an Ellie for short, but who knows! Thank you so much for your help! xx

It should be properly pronounced with "RAY". I know I took lots of Latin in high school and this named was used frequently, so in my mind it seems really odd anyone would say it with "REE"

I pronounce it or-ee-lia. But honestly if you love the name I would use it and just correct the people who pronounce it incorrectly. My son is named Caleb and you'd be surprised how often it's mispronounced here but I love the name and couldn't see him with any other name so I don't mind correcting people now and then.

I pronounce it as REH, not RAY or REE, and believe this is the proper pronunciation, as the name is also spelled as Aurélia. However, certainly with a foreign name, I believe there is some latitude with pronunciation, so you should be fine whatever you decide. GL!
To the guest mentioning the latin, sorry but in latin it is au reh lee ah.
If you want the correct latin pronounciation, you should listen to somebody speaking a romanesque language saying it.

"RAY" :0)
In French, é = ay, è = eh.
My first language is French, so I would say Au-Ray-Lee-Ah, but I think Au-Ree-Lee-Ah sounds good too.

I don't know which is "correct" but I've always imagined it "ray" or "reh" in my mind, NEVER ree. I dislike the ree pronunciation but think the ray pronunciation is beautiful.
