Leighton. Random ys are unnecessary and tacky. If you like them so much change your name don't burden your child.

^ However, Leyton & Lleyton, which are variants, may be more to your liking. Anything other than -tyn. GL!

Burden my child ? Wow . Let me ask you something , when you say the name Leighton , it's pronounced Laytin . So why in the world would I want to spell it with an o . You don't pronounce it Lay-Ton . Like when you say "one ton of lumber" or what have you .it would be benificial for you to start thinking outside the box if you look up the name Laityn, it's a name! Ppl use it . Jusst like they use all the other spellings I've listed . Have you gave it a second thought before saying it's tacky . It's really not . It's a way the I like better and it makes more sense to pronounce it as it's spelled .Maybe you like to be boring and follow everybody else without questioning it .

Sure it is a burden. Ask ten people how they would spell the name. You get Leighton or Layton, it is doubtful you would get any of your options. Those are people your child has to correct. That becomes a hassle even if she likes her name. And really it isn't about you, it is about her.

A y replaces an I to me but not any other letter. And if it's used in the baby book of names it's ok but don't use a made up spelling.

Most sites give the pronunciation as lay-ton. Think baby names.com nameberry.com, etc. Now regional accents may make ton sound like ten, tin. Sort of like Peyton. But most people are pretty set in the spelling. I don't see it as thinking outside the box as much as making it easier for your child. My niece is Breanna as opposed to Brianna. It is even a big deal at the pharmacy picking up medicine for her and it is only one letter.

Picking you're child's name is about you if you think about it because YOU'RE picking a name YOU like , therefore you arechoosing the spelling that you like . You don't know if you're child will like it or not . I get choosing a common spelling soillogical don't get it wrong , but it's not about other ppl is it? Replacing a y wwith an o isn't that big of deal . And yes one does put the y in place of I , but in this case that's how ppl say the name . Laytin . Have you ever heard someone pronounce it LAY-TON. with the actual pronuciation of TON. Yikes . I don't know why ppl don't understand this

Just pick a different name. If you have to fight over the internet about it just think what people will say in person. I mean really ....

At the end of the day, it's the OP's child and she gets to decide whether she wants to use an O or Y in her child's name. Live and let live. Her child her way...:)

I voted for Laytin. GL
