Lida vs. Thoughts?

I have been looking for a sweet sounding, yet not too common name for my baby girl, and came across the name Lida and fell in love. What do you think of this name? Do you prefer it pronounced as lye-duh or lee-duh? What middle names would you pair with it?

To me, it sounds more like a nickname. Would you consider using Alida (ah-lee-duh)?

When I first read it, I read it as "ah-lid-duh"... Which is ugly.. Imo.. The pronunciation "Lee-duh" is cute... But I'd either look for a different way to spell it, or go with what above poster said and use it as a nickname for something else.

Sorry... I didn't mean "ah-lid-duh"... Lol, just "lid-uh"

I think I would say Lee-duh, since that doesn't make it sound like Leila, and makes it unique. For middle names, I like:

Lida Wisteria
Lida Rose (I know, cliche, but its cancelled out by Lida!)
Lida Priscilla
Lida Josephine
Lida Martha
Lida Margaret
Lida Abigail
Lida Joanna
Lida Sarah
Lida Phoebe

My brain added an extra "i" sound to make it Lydia, and then when I looked back at it i wanted to pronounce it Lye-da. I had never heard of the name before

I think it would be nice as a short name for Callida, and I prefer it pronounced Lee-da.

I think it's lovely just on its own, and to me the obvious automatic pronounciation is Lee-duh

You may also like it spelt Leida, and you may also like Frida/frieda and Letha/leitha/leatha

I have a friend (late 30s) named Lida (LEE-dÉ™) as an alternate spelling of Leda (the mother of Helen of Troy in Greek mythology). It's pretty, but pronunciation will be constantly questioned by people who see the name before they hear it...and those who hear it first might easily assume the classic spelling.

I would do Lydia and then Lida as a nickname

I love LYE-da, like in the song Lida Rose. Look it up, it's a beautiful song!

The name Lida is of ancient Greek origin
It means beautifully dressed, small winged woman
Greek speaking people would pronounce it as

Non Greek speaking people would pronounce it
