Is Hildegard vs. A Good vs. Name?

So, I've settled on using the name Hildegard for now. I can't think of anything else I like. I originally was thinking about Hannah, but I would never like that name a lot. I really love Hildegard, and Hilde as a nickname. (pronounced Hil-di, with sort of a short "i" short "e" sound at the end) I would like to get some opinions on the name first though. Do you think Hildegard, with Hilde as a nickname is good? Thank you.

It is a good name. Hannah is a little boring. If you love it that is the most important thing.

I honestly think it's a horrible name that will lead to a bunch of teasing. just Hilde is a better choice. IMO

No I dont think so. It is not very attractive sounding or looking at all. I know i would absolutely hate if that was my name.
Maybe Heidi would be better

Well, Loverofbabynames, I think she would mostly go by Hilde, but it feels incomplete to me without being Hildegard as a full name. She could introduce herself as Hilde to everyone, and that's how people would know her. But her good friends would know her name was Hildegard. Do you think then it works?

No. as Lillian said I'd hate to have that as my name.

Actually, you wouldn't have to, you would be choosing to 😉. But you really think it still wouldn't work if everyone knew her as "Hilde"?

There's a famous Hildegard who was a divinely-inspired composer of music in the middle ages. So to me it's always seemed an ancient and somewhat odd name. But with Hilde as a nickname I think it would be ok. It might even sound like it fits in with the surname-as-first-name trend, since I think of names ending -gard as being last names, like Beauregard, etc.

Well that's encouraging. I've heard of Hildegard of Bingen. I think she's a very special person. Even more reason to love the name Hildegard.

I'm not really trying to be in a "trend" but if it makes people like the name Hildegard, I'm all for it. I really like Hilde as a nickname a lot.

Hilde can stand alone and is prettier than Hildegard.

Sorry, but I really dislike Hildegard and Hilde. I see lots of teasing potential and think it would be a very tough name for your daughter to grow up with. It sounds harsh, dated and just sort of odd to me.

It's odd but not dreadful

I like Hilde, I'm just not in love with Hildegard. I could like it the middle name to go with it is just excellent. Or, could you do a variation for the nn Hilde? Like:
Hildemae
Hildeline
Hildegray
Hildebeth
Hildelyn
Hilderen

No, it's not about the nickname Hilde. I just like Hilde because it's short and sweet. The name Hildegard is the entire point of Hilde as a nickname. I really like Hildegard.

It wouldn't work as a middle name, because I can't come up with another name I like!

Heather, people find ways to tease everything. She would mostly go by Hilde, and I don't think that would be teased.

If you're sticking with Hildegard then why come on this site and ask for our opinions? If you like it then go for it. :) Ps I also think Hilde is a cute nickname. Good luck to you!

This is an old thread, but I just wanted to chime in that I named my daughter Hildegard in March 2018 and have not regretted it. Most people shorten it to Hildy. Hildegard von Bingen was a total bad-ass and I think it's a name that fits my LO and which she'll continue to grow into. To me it says CEO, engineer, designer, or artist. I can tell it shocked a few older folks but they're all used to it now.
