Feminine vs. Form Of vs. Timothy

I really love the name Timothy. It's so sweet, and it means "Honoring God". Which I love! But if I have a girl, I still love it, and I can't think of anything else. I wanted a feminine version of it, but I don't like Timothea. I like Timotha, but I don't think it will work. I also thought of Theotima, since that has the same elements "theos" (God) and "timao" (to honor). Can you think of any more?

I've always liked Thea. It's a beautiful girls name similar to Timothy. Good luck!

I'm not sure what you can use and still retain the same meaning, which I also love. If anyone knows a girl name with the same meaning, even if a completely different-sounding name, I'd be interested in hearing that too as I compile my list. Are you finding out the gender ahead of time? If so, maybe wait and see, because you may not need to find a feminine form after all if you have a boy.

Sorry to all the people who like Thea. I've always looked at that as a nn, and it gets rid of the "timao" element. That would be a nice nn for Theotima though.

I'm not really into Timothea though, I liked Timotha. But what does Timonya mean? that's a nice one! I was actually thinking of Tilly as a nn for Theotima.

I think Tiffany has a completely separate meaning L.

No, actually I'm not going to find out the gender. I just wanted to use a form of the same name for either. I might need the feminine form though, since I can't think of another name I like for a girl.

Thanks SweetArrow. Amity is nice, but isn't that a separate virtue name? I like Timothy because of the meaning too, "honoring God".

So far from everyone's suggestions, I like Thea and Tilly, but only as nns. I'm also curious to see what Timonya means. Thanks so far!

From what I understand, Timotha and Timothea are your only options if you want to keep the exact meaning of Timothy, and want a name with some history of use.

By feminizing some other forms of Timothy, I have come up with Timoteia, Tima, Timotea, Timoteja, Timotia, and Timofeia.

Sorry, I've already considered Dorothy, and it's going to have to be a no. Nice try though!

A lot of the other names are interesting, especially Philothea and Athalia.

Thanks VEL! I'm liking Timothia, Timoteia and Timotea.

Timea is interesting, and Timantha is sort of neat, but that probably comes from "anthos" which means "flower" not "God".

Thanks Guest, but the names have to be close in meaning and sound to Timothy.

I like Theona/Theone Greekgirl! I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should use that. I don't like Timandra, but Timona is really pretty looking! Thanks!
