Melody vs. Melanie vs. Melissa

I am expecting my first baby and recently found out that it is a girl! I have decided that I want to name her after my dad who died of cancer when I was 14. His name was Melvin. The only names I can think of for a girl that have Mel in it are Melody, Melanie, and Melissa. I don't hate them, but I don't really love them either. I was looking around on some forums for female versions of Melvin and came across Melvina and Melandra. I kind of like these, but think maybe they are too weird. What are your thoughts? Do you have any other suggestions of girl names with Mel or Melvin in them? Thank you, Amanda.

Melina(meh-lee-nuh) has been a big favorite of mine for a girl for a while. I think it would be a beautiful name to honor Melvin. Out of the ones you listed Melody gmv.

I agree with poster about Melina is cute! There is also Mellie or you could go with something like Amelia that contains Mel.

I know someone named Camellia (after the flower bush). She changed nicknames as she was growing up, 1st Cami when she was little, then Lia, when she got a little older, she settled on Mel in middle school & still prefers that.

I think Melissa Cross is too much s. Do you like any of the alternatives suggested by commenters? I would steer clear of Melvina, but i do like Melody, Melina, Amelia, Melinda, Melaina, and Melisande.

Carmelita
Amelie
Pamela
Imelda
Demelza

You could also honor your dad using "vin" instead of "mel":

My favorite from your list is Melanie, but I also like Melvina as well. I would also suggest Melva, Melina, Melaina, Melana, Melania, Melba, Melia, Melinda, Meliora, Melisande, Melodia, Melusine, Melvine, Alvina, Bevin, Davina, Elvina, Jovina, Lavinia, Olivine, and Vincenza
